May 7, 2009 Have you been in a car accident recently?
Driving in Vancouver is dangerous; many drivers are impatient or talking on their cell phone. Chances are sooner or later you will be in an accident caused by someone else. What should I do after a car accident? The most common complaint after a low impact accident is neck and back pain and sometimes headaches.
They most important thing is have it checked out by a health care professional, especially a chiropractor such as myself. You ask why? Chiropractors are licensed Doctors of Chiropractic in the province of British Columbia, this means that we are able to diagnose your condition after a car accident. We will carefully examine and record your injuries and complaints. The second step is to seek legal advice. Usually you have two years to seek legal advice, as long as you are continuing care with us. We work with a network of attorneys that will help you get the compensation you deserve. If you can not afford care, we will work with your attorney and arrange payment to us directly after your settlement.
Come in or call and let us help you with your car accident claim.
June 14, 2008 The truth about Extended Health Insurance
Many people are confused when it comes to extended health insurance
(Example Pacific Blue Cross). Unlike Dental insurance, most extended
health insurances requires the patient to pay first and than will be
reimbursed by insurance companies. Extended health insurance is not
like car or our house insurance. It is a complicated subject. Extended
health insurance is picked by your employer. Some employers will pay
for all your extended health & dental insurance, while others will
deduct a contribution from your paycheck. The amount deducted depends
on the benefits you get and your family size. When you go see a chiropractor,
massage therapist, physiotherapist, naturopath or other licensed health
professionals, you pay first and will be given a receipt. This receipt
is mailed to the insurance company and the insurance company will mail
you a check in about 2-3 weeks depending on the insurance company. Each
health profession has a different limit. At the end of each month, the
insurance company gives the employer a bill for the amount of the extended
health & dental claims + 10 to 20% administration fee. The extended
health & dental bill is a company expense, allowing the employer
to lower their corporate taxes. In the end it is a win-win situation.
The employee is healthy and the employer can lower their taxes. These
extended benefits are part of your pay package.
Each month, the employer only expects about 1-2 employees to use their
benefits. The problem begins, when every single employee in the company
starts to use his or her extended health benefits. The employer’s
health budget for that month will double or triple. The employer is
faced with 3 choices. One is to increase the health budget. Second is
to cut benefits and point fingers at the most frequently used health
professions, even thought these health professionals are keeping the
employees healthy making them more productive and less days off work.
Third restrict the health professions that are frequently used and require
a medical referral from a family doctor. The 2nd and 3rd choice is the
most common way employers deal with increasing health cost. The 3rd
choice is even worst because now the medical system known as MSP or
HIBC has to pick up the bill for the family doctor visit about $30 to
write a referral. The referral is usually unnecessary, because health
professionals are trained in diagnosing neuro- muscular problems.
